Often considered to be one of the best men's tennis players never to actually win a major tennis tournament or title in his relatively short career, the 25-year old Scotch player Andy Murray still has an impressive list of wins and achievements to his name. Currently ranked as the number 4 player in the world, and the British number 1, Murray has reached the finals of three grand slam tournaments despite making his professional debut less than ten years ago. At one stage of his career, the tennis ace was ranked as the number 2 player in the world.

There have been many great sporting rivalries in the world of tennis, Borg and McEnroe, Agassi and Sampras, but I'm sure that most of those great players would agree that the current rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is second to none. Not since the 18th of July 2005, when Leyton Hewitt's occupied the No 2 spot of the South African Airways ATP Rankings has another player broken the stranglehold of Federer's and Nadal's domination of the top two positions.

ATP Tennis - Andy Murray Captured the Madrid Masters Title

The No.4 of the world of 23 years old, Andy Murray, captured his fourth ATP title of the year at the Madrid Masters in Spain by beating the French and world No.10 Gilles Simons 6-4, 7-6(8/6). It was a closed game but at the end the victory was for the British player, especially after his 10 aces and saving two set points in a tiebreaker.

World No. 2 Andy Murray considers the clay court as his "worst surface" but thinks that he is ready for the clay court season and regards himself as being in a better shape than what he was a year back. To begin with, Murray has so far beaten only one top-ten player in his professional career on the clay court-Nikolay Davydenko in the semifinals of the Monte Carlo Masters in 2011. Later that year, the Scot did managed to reach the last four stage of the French Open but the reigning US Open champion who nursed a niggling back injury during the 2012 season bowed out of the Roland Garros in the quarter finals.

Andy Murray's triumph at the 2011 US Open to claim his first grand slam has clearly proven that a new found confidence is surging within the Scot known much for his choking at the final moments of glory. The win has certainly lifted a huge burden from his shoulder and earned himself much needed confidence in his abilities. All this while Murray faced huge pressure of expectations from his country mates who longed for a grand slam (men's singles) title, something the nation has failed to win for 76 long years.

ATP Tour Wimbledon 2009 - Andy Murray's Passive Resistance or Just Beaten by the Better Man?

As the 2009 Wimbledon campaign comes to an end, and Roger Federer sits victorious once more as at very least, statistically the best Tennis player of all time, are we any closer to finding that elusive British champion? Tim Henman carried British hopes for many years and if rain hadn't intervened against Goran Ivanisevic in 2001 then we may have had a finalist at worst. I wonder if Henman in his BBC commentary position for this years Wimbledon ever entertained the thought, 'if only the roof were around in my day?
