NHL Flashback - Caught in His Own Duck Trap, Did Burke Lowe-r 'The Finger?'
by
Al David
Last year in late July the hockey world waited with bated breath to see what the Anaheim Ducks GM would do, after his former friend (Oilers GM Kevin Lowe) had baited and nearly hooked one of Burke's restricted free agent (RFA) ducklings Dustin Penner. Burke's decision would have major repercussions for all future RFA NHL players and all NHL general managers.

Burke, Get Down to Business With the Flames
by
Conner Galwau
The Toronto Maple Leafs have acquired veteran goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere from the Anaheim Ducks in a trade for goalie Vesa Toskala and veteran forward Jason Blake. The most valuable player of the 2003 Stanley Cup playoffs, the deal reunites Giguere with his long-time goaltending coach Francois Allaire, as well as former GM Brian Burke.

Kovalchuk to Leafs - A Clarification
by
Micheal Aldred
I would first like state that I am addressing this rumor because it is, in fact, circulating around the league that Toronto is interested in the Atlanta Thrashers' sniper Ilya Kovalchuk. Yes, this rumor did come to light due to an Eklund blog, but no, it is not fake. In fact, every team in the league would love to get their hands on Kovalchuk.

Maple Leafs Make Some Big Trades and Look to Solidify Their Future!
by
John Borruso
Toronto Maple Leafs traded forwards Nikla Hagman, Matt Stajan, Jamal Mayer with defenseman Ian White for the hard hitting Calgary Flames defensenman Dion Phaneuf and Keith Aulie along with forward Fredrik Sjostrom. The center piece of the deal is defenseman Dion Phaneuf who is only 24 years of age which Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke will try to build his team around. Burke wasn't done there as he then made another deal with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks sending goalie Vesa Toskala and forward Jason Blake for Stanley Cup winning goalie Jean Sebastian Giguere.

Icons of the NHL - The Toronto Maple Leafs
by
Ken Abbott
The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most storied franchises in the entire NHL. And as one of the "Original Six" teams, they are also one of the longest standing teams. The team has won the second most Stanley Cups of any team in NHL history, with 13. The only team with more is fittingly enough their bitter rival, the Montreal Canadiens. Despite being extremely well supported, with plenty of money at their disposal, the Maple Leafs have struggled in recent years, unable to rekindle their past glories.

Trades, Signings, and Heatley
by
Josh Lind
At times like these, it can be hard to believe that there's not any NHL hockey being played right now. Despite the offseason, the hockey world is indeed awake and abuzz with big-name player movement, a frenzied free-agent market, and enough rumours and speculation to drive anyone crazy!
