Counting Down to Christmas and the Birth of the SUN - Oops I mean SON

Those familiar with the Worldwide Church of God know that after many years of observing what most would call "Jewish Holidays" but with Christian significance, the Church has now switched to the more generically acceptable Christians holidays, such as Easter and Christmas. In the past, these Spring Equinox and Winter Solstice holidays were replaced by the recognition of Passover over Easter in the Spring and the Festival of Tabernacles in the Fall over Christmas. While no religious holy day springs from a vacuum, and the Jewish Holy Days, also sprang from the pagan agricultural holidays that preceded them, I wonder if the Worldwide Church of God, and all Christians would be intrigued and challenged to realize just exactly which "Son" was being born on Christmas and why?

We have separated children's sun protection into two categories. 1. Babies and Sun Protection and 2. Kids and Sun Protection.... I guess there should be a third category for teenagers but as they say, "Cats have nine lives. Teenagers carry on as if they did". Let's cross our fingers that the training and good habits gained in their younger years will help them in their teens. Find out ways to create good sun safety habit in your children and reduce their chances of skin cancer and other skin problems in the future.

This year we are fortunate to be able to fulfill a unique Mitzvah. While there are those who put tremendous efforts into fulfilling their favourite Mitzvot such as Shabbat, Kashrut, Mezuzot, Tefillin and Tzizit etc. - rare is the person who runs around in absolute excitement each day as he thinks of his opportunity to make a blessing over the sun!

Yesterday, March 20th, someone said to me, "Hey, today is the first day of spring." I said yep, sure is and asked if he knew why today was the chosen day. He did not know but rather thought that someone just picked this date as the official start of the season. "No," I said. "Actually yesterday at 1:26 PM The Sun was crossified by finally landing smack at the interesecion of the Celestial Equator as projected from our earthly equator into space, and the Ecliptic, which is the line in the sky that the sun appears to follow in it's one year journery through the signs of the Zodiac." He just looked at me and said, "oh."
